Great News! Cheryl Keyes has been selected as a finalist for the American Prize in Composition in the pop/light music category for her orchestral work, Sundiata Keita Overture. This work was premiered and performed by the Juneteenth Festival Orchestra and conducted by Maestro Antoine Clark at the UCLA inaugural Juneteenth Day Celebration—Prelude to Juneteenth Day Celebration: A Multimedia Event—on June 5, 2024 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Keyes’s composition highlights Professor Longhair-style piano licks and tight-harmonic saxophone lines accompanied by a rhythm section that brings together jazz, funk, and RnB distinct to New Orleans.
